The NSW Institute of Teachers is seeking applications from interested teachers to train as external assessors of documentation relating to accreditation at the level of Professional Competence.
The purpose of external assessors is to ensure that the accreditation process is consistent across NSW. This is an opportunity for experienced teachers to gain expertise in the assessment of teacher quality and contribute towards the enhancement of the teaching profession.
The Institute will meet the costs of attendance at the one day training course, including casual teacher relief. The next round of training will be held 4 and 5 December 2008.
Applications need to be returned to the Institute by 10 November 2008.
The selection criteria for external assessors are:
Essential
- recent successful classroom experience
- in-depth subject knowledge and knowledge of pedagogy
- excellent analytical and writing skills
- recent experience in supporting and mentoring other teachers particularly with regard to beginning teachers
- willingness to assume the role of an external assessor for a minimum of two years
- knowledge of the NSW Institute of Teachers Professional Teaching Standards.
Desirable
- current employment as a teacher or principal in a NSW school or schools.
