Legislation

The Institute of Teachers was established by an Act of Parliament. Its functions and the legal basis for accreditation are set out in the Institute of Teachers Act 2004. The Second Reading Speeches provide an interpretation of the intent of the legislation. The Institute of Teachers Regulation 2005 sets out the requirements of the Act that are subject to change through regulations.
