Requirements for admission to undergraduate teacher education programs
The ITEC discussed preliminary advice from the Institute on the equivalence to Band 4 HSC English (for primary and secondary) and Band 4 HSC mathematics (primary only) requirement for admission to undergraduate initial teacher education programs. The ITEC requested that more extensive advice be prepared on this matter.
Draft professional experience requirements
Public consultation on the draft professional experience requirements concluded in mid-June 2008. The ITEC considered a consultation report which identified the main issues raised by respondents during the consultation period. The ITEC approved the establishment of a sub-committee to progress the draft requirements and coordinate further consultation with NSW teacher education institutions.
Initial teacher education program approval
The ITEC recommended that advice be prepared through the Chair of the Insitute to the Minister for the approval of one initial teacher education program.
Other
The Chair highlighted the implications of a number of recent Federal Government policies and initiatives including the Bradley Review.
Institute staff highlighted the need for institutions to be able to clearly identify, possibly on the academic transcript, the secondary subjects that graduates are qualified for in terms of the Institute’s Subject Content Requirements.
