Our website accounts require the use of what are commonly known as Pop-Up windows or 'Pop-Ups' (new windows that open automatically in your web browser).
In most cases these Pop-Ups contain adverts, so they are usually disabled by your web browser or by a downloaded toolbar.
Unless Pop-Ups are enabled for our website, you may find that clicking on certain links / buttons will do nothing except refresh the page.
There are literally dozens of Pop-Up blocking software packages, so it is next to impossible to document the procedure for disabling each one. In general however, most Pop-Up Blockers will install themselves either within the browser toolbar, or within the Windows Taskbar along the bottom right corner. Please see below for details on disabling the main Pop-Up Blockers.
Internet Explorer
Go to the toolbar at the top of the page and select 'Tools', then 'Pop-Up Blocker'. If the pop-up blocker is currently on, you should be able to click on the option 'Turn off Pop-up Blocker'.
If you would rather keep the pop-up blocker on, you can select 'Pop-up Blocker Settings' and add www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au to the list of websites the pop-up blocker allows.
Google/MSN/AOL Toolbars
If you have downloaded any of the above toolbars chances are they will have their own Pop-Up Blockers running. About half way along the toolbars you should find a button that specifies an amount of Pop-Ups that have been blocked (i.e. '7 blocked', or 'Blocked: 27'). Click on this button to find the options to either turn off the Pop-Up Blocker, 'Temporarily allow pop-ups from this website', or 'Always allow pop-ups from this website', etc.
Yahoo Toolbar
Locate this toolbar. Click on the little yellow window icon between the 'Search Windows' button and the crosshair icon. A menu will appear. Uncheck the 'Enable Pop-Up Blocker' selection.
Safari
In the Safari browser, use the Command+k key combo to toggle the pop-up blocker on or off.
Firefox
In Firefox, OS X users should add www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au to the list of allowed sites. You can do that by selecting Preferences in the Firefox menu, selecting the Content tab, selecting the Allowed Sites button and pasting in the URL of the above webpage.
Pop-Up Stopper
One of the more popular Pop-Up Blockers available, this software is designed solely for preventing Pop-Ups. It will install a white hand-shaped icon in the lower right corner of your Start Menu Toolbar. Right-click on this icon to bring up the menu and then uncheck the 'Block Pop-Up Windows' setting.
Pop-Up Cop Toolbar
Another popular Pop-Up Blocker, this toolbar is also designed solely for preventing Pop-Ups. On the toolbar, click on the arrow on the right of the Pop-Up Cop button to bring up the menu. Select 'Disable Pop-Up Cop'.
Other
Pop-up blocking functions are also included in some anti-virus, internet security, personal firewall, and browser programs. Disable the relevant setting in the program or set www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au as an allowed site.
