External Observers Needed!
25 Sep 2008
INVITATION TO APPLY AS A NSW INSTITUTE OF TEACHERS EXTERNAL OBSERVER
The NSW Institute of Teachers is seeking applications from teachers interested in becoming external observers for the process of accreditation at Professional Accomplishment and Professional Leadership.
External observers have a crucial role in the accreditation model. Their observations provide an opportunity for independent review of a candidate’s practice.
External observers consider the candidate’s practice with reference to the indicators described in the Evidence Guide. The timing of observations will be negotiated by the Institute with the TAA/Principal and candidate.
External observers do not make accreditation decisions. They write a report that is a source of evidence about the candidate’s practice that will be included in the final accreditation documentation, for consideration during the accreditation process.
Criteria for selection of external observers are:
- Recent, successful experience in supporting and mentoring teachers
- In-depth understanding and knowledge of own subject/KLA content
- Excellent communication skills with experience in giving constructive and honest feedback
- Excellent analytical skills
- Proven record of excellent pedagogy and classroom practice
- Sound knowledge of the Professional Teaching Standards and the role they play in the accreditation process
- Current or very recent teaching experience
The Institute will train external observers and will meet the cost of attendance at the training, including casual teacher relief.
If you are interested in applying, please complete the application form and return it:
Please mark for the attention of Jan Donaldson, Senior Policy Officer, Standards and Accreditation.
Closing date: 3 November 2008.
