The standards were developed by the Institute in partnership with teachers from around NSW. The standards were validated in a study conducted by the University of New England.
Overall some 7000 teachers contributed to the development and validation of the standards. The standards provide a framework to guide a teacher’s development throughout their career.
They are arranged over four levels:
